Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and the mind. Behavior: actions and responses directly observed mind: internal states and processes (thoughts and feeling) from observable, measurable responses. Clinical psychology: the study and treatment of mental disorders. Cognitive psychology: specializes in the study of mental processes (consciousness, attention, memory, decision making and problem solving) Biopsychology: biological underpinning of behavior (genes, hormone influences, feelings, how evolution shaped psychological capabilities) Developmental: examines human physical, psychological and social development across the lifespan. Experimental: basic processes as learning, sensory system, perception, motivational states (sexual, hunger, thirst) Personality: study of human personality (core personality, different traits relate) Social: people"s thoughts, feelings and behavior pertaining to the social world: the world of other people.
