Feminist scholars will say that the universal is not universal. Standard of universality/normality is actually very specific kind of individual. Laws of equality might not actually be equal --> example: gender specific pay grades. One is not born a woman but becomes one. Imbedded in our culture that the focus on male and female politicians is different. Asked questions that no males would be asked. Second sex: woman and/as category of the other Reject standard status quo of what women is/are. Feminism must start w/ the simplistic assumption that women are defined by scientific entities. Either argue women are different or the same but never that men are superior. Man represents both the +ve and neutral/universal (man designated as human beings) Therefore men/women are not treated as equal categories - men have more weight. Aristotle thought of women as 2ndary and lack of maleness. Women is never defined as itself in own regard as autonomous being.
