Sovereign power: juridico- discursive (law) a. b. c. Current that runs or powers through speech + reasoning --> form of rights or law. Individual + collective actor can achieve objective via consent of one or more actors. Ex: ancient greek model of dia-logos (latin for law) - crossing of 2 speakers/speeches. Rule of hierarchy (rank + division) + domination or conquest. What is legitimate and what is not legitimate - what is lawful or unlawful. State-centric: upholds sovereigns authority to determine limits of legality; ensures state"s monopoly over violence. Power resides in the ruling force --> king or queen turned into power/authority of the state. If state is violent = violence is legit. Supremacy of authority or rule as exercised by sovereign or sovereign state.
