Physical needs are unavoidable - food, shelter, and clothing; cannot do w/o them, special to marx - consistent need despite whatever economic system, these physical needs are the driver of history leading to a series of economic systems. >leads us away from our true selves - alter our relationship to the world and other people. >we are all subjects - need objects; proper relationship of a subject to an object is relied to the creativity side and the needs side - objects satisfy our needs and stimulate our creativity. This practice happens w/ money but also with things like religion - marx rejects religion and wants to get rid of it.
