Humans present different characteristics depending on the situation. Humans are adaptable, changeable, plastic, perfectible - we can be anything. Laughs at hobbes vision of humans in state of nature. Thinks people are who they are in civilized society. Humans have abilities that make them superior to other animals. In nature, people are buff and used to hardships. We are not reasoning but we have instinct. Only becomes a problem when we think of other characteristics we have. Self love is good but can become twisted into something vain - Born with pity and compassion; doesn"t make us different from. Civilizations overlays compassion, allowing us to ignore suffering other animals. In state of nature, we don"t have language or reason. In state of nature, we are all free and equal. Women are responsible for children and father has no role. Women have ready tongues, will say what will please. Sophie educated so she can be a good companion.
