Document Summary
Good life is a life of pleasure (kant 144) someone who is appetitive, physical pleasure. Artistotle: only vulgar people interpret happiness in this way. Political happiness identifies happiness with honour, you are happy if other people praise you. Aristotle: this (cid:272)ould (cid:271)e superfi(cid:272)ial, if so(cid:373)eo(cid:374)e ho(cid:374)ours you for so(cid:373)e superfi(cid:272)ial trait you (cid:449)o(cid:374)(cid:859)t truly (cid:271)e happy, but if they honour you for being virtuous you can truly be happy. Contemplation important part of the deliberative capacity we have, contemplation of the divine, contemplation of things changing. This ability to act is a wonderful thing, choice and being conscious of our actions are taken for granted: phronesis: practical wisdom. Exercise our virtue: avoid deficiencies (not enough) and excess (too much). Aim for moderation: temperance is something you should pursue, not too much and not too little, external goods, good life involves physical comfort. For aristotle it requires the minimal amount of physical comfort: study found poverty interferes with contemplation.
