Review session: thursday december 10th, 2015 at 10:30-11:30 am in ssc 4255. Why are there inancing laws: to limit unequal and unfair access that the poliicians have with the business elite, the regulaion of money donaions has been a major issue surrounding the elecions. Public subsidies for some candidates: some- if you achieved a minimum threshold in an elecion of votes, that person or party would qualify for a reimbursement of funds that you or the party had spent on the elecion. This was done to provide transparency, equality, and provided an element of public paricipaion in the form of tax money contribuing to a certain party. Pierre trudeau implemented this, laid ground work for later elecion legislature. Restrict party and candidate contribuions only to individuals. Limit corporaions and unions to contribute annual limit of or riding associaions. Annual subsidy of . 75/vote in last elecion: was designed to ofset the limitaions put on paries" ability to raise money.
