Canada: result of conflicts francophones turned away from the government. Ottawa cannot be trusted, looked to quebec for their needs/beliefs. Up until the 1960s, nationalism was expressed through support through quebec"s traditional ruling elite = roman catholic church, inherently conservative social and political elites.
