That which concerns the state or government. Not just who gets what, when and how (harold lasswell) But also the authoritative allocation of values (david easton), there is an attempt to authoritatively allocate goods. Intervention by legitimate actors, identi able political realm. Just those who make the decisions, not the civil servants who implement them. Also the parties and partisans competing for power. Politics has become too tied down to the interests of the parties, not motivated by common interests but by the interests of other parties (political games) State is now seen as opposite of private sphere. The state is public as it is open and transparent. Engagement in political forms of behaviour or activity, location does not matter as much as the nature. Politics is pervasive in two senses: wherever struggle for power and advantage takes place, politics is about this struggle.
