Feminism: eliminating the subordination of women by men. Central aspect of human history: sexual inequality, injustice, domination. Ancient greek attempt to assert women"s power: Women went on sex strike for peace during peloponnesian. 100 million women are missing around the world: understanding the rates of 1 child policy. Denial access to necessary nutrition and health care. According to wollstonecraft: women and men are equals in possessing the capacity to reason. Women are oppressed by social institution, especially education. The differences between men and women are artificial rather than natural. Inequality can be ended by changing key institution (marriage, education: only then can we see an end to inequality. Liberal feminism"s aim: to overcome overt discrimination against women by changing laws and other social institutions. Goal: liberal goal of equal opportunity with special emphasis between women and men. Canada ranks 48th in the world population of women in the lower houses.
