State and society relationships (how the government interacts with citizens) As an activity involving the use of or struggle of power. Trading, buying goods and services, paying tuitions or loans. International relations is what goes on between two countries (diplomacy) Power is the ability to cororse somebody to do something they might otherwise not do. Authority is power plus legitimacy (power is granted by somebody) Power: putin (results of elections are allegedly falsified) Institution: anything that has a set of rules and regulations that govern the way the behave and how we interact with them* Empirical: focuses on observable phenomena (what? how?) Semantic: concerned with meaning and origin of concepts (how words affect something) Structure: refers to any formal institution to permit or constrain certain decisions to be made (school, license) * Agency: ability for any person to do something of their own authority (to violate structure)*
