Proper extent & distribution of political power (wol 2). Process - rigid structures in place in society. Binding decisions - agreements that cant be broken. Politics - mitigate between con ict and cooperation (con icting opinions and ideologies can come together to tackle key issues/agree to disagree) Collective action - working together to come to a decision. Con ict and cooperation - doing things in an orderly manner in order to bene t all. Authoritative decisions - political power, limits on authoritative decisions. Government - the activity of governing or ruling. Exercising authority over others (authority is di erent from power). Aristotle (384-322 bc) - aristotle has two questions: State - territorial community, centralized governing authority, sovereignty including monopoly of legitimate violence (law enforcement). These characteristics must be present before there can be a monopoly of legitimate violence. Power - the ability to produce results and in uence others" behaviour.
