All feminism begins with the ideology that a woman"s place in society is unequal and unjust. Feminism says that there"s a problem with that inequality. Feminism is a political project: eliminate causes and consequences of women"s disadvantages. Internally diverse; signi cant disagreements among feminists about the causes and recti cations. Ways to view feminism: internally competitive, internally diverse every version of feminism is attempting to improve women"s lives. Not just about improving women"s lives; also men"s: some expectations of men are also constraining and oppressive. Books from 1905 & 1700s where women are valued and treated as equal. First-wave feminism (19th, 20th centuries): focused on right to vote for adult women, qu bec women couldn"t vote until 1944. Political gains have not been linear waves. Women essential to the war e ort nurses, doctors not the front lines but cannot vote when they get home. Tuesday, october 24, 2017: highly active, politically: protests, trying to get elected.
