Key transnational issues: climate change, infectious diseases. The right to punish those who disobey. Why do we need a legitimate claim to the state of the land we live on. We can look at this possibility through experimentation- a life with no states. Themes: fear- the fear of death forces men into society and when people enter a society they have to give up their freedom, war- the land was constantly at war, peace- he seeks peace. Hobbes claims: the worst scenario is no state protection, he believes that people are willing to give up their freedom for protection from the state, powerful state, for absolute power, despotism to avoid conflict. Felicity: continual success and getting what you want. Power: will ensure the ability to get what one wants, endlessly competitive.
