Document Summary

E. g. assuming visible light is 400-600nm, resolution is 200-300nm. Therefore, two objects closer than 200-300 nm will superimpose and look like a single object. *basal lamina aka basement membrane is part of the ecm. Epithelium is physically attached to the bl, which is part of the ecm. All 3 layers are tightly attached to one another. There are 3 types of junctions in cells- anchoring junctions, occluding junctions and communicating junctions. Anchoring junctions can be cell-matrix as well as cell-cell. Occluding and communicating junctions are cell-cell only. Anchoring junctions mechanically attach cells to their external surroundings. Involved in transmitting information back to the cell. If there"s a cavity in the liver, the cells will send out ecm, proliferate and fill out the cavity. After cell-cell contact is achieved, they re-differentiate into liver cells and continue to proliferate. Ecm transmits information to pm transmembrane proteins (ie. binding to integrins), and this physical binding starts a signal cascade.
