State the principle functions of the cardiovascular system. Transports o2 & nutrients to the tissues of the body. Removes co2 & waste products from the tissues of the body. Transports and distributes hormones and other substances throughout the body. Closed system of tubes = blood vessels. Fluid medium through which various substances are transported = blood. Pulmonary circulation blood vessels that carry blood to and from the lungs: pulmonary circulation and lungs provide for exchange of gasses (o2 and co2) between the atmosphere and the blood.
