Document Summary

Conducting zone - brings air into the lungs, conducts the air: consists of the trachea, left and right bronchi, and the start of the bronchioles, cilia are small hairs that help clear mucus from the lungs. Mucus isn"t all bad though, it helps protect the lungs by trapping bacteria and pathogens which then gets cleared by the cilia: contains columnar epithelial cells. Site of gas exchange: ends of the bronchioles and the alveoli (main part of the respiratory zone, no mucus or cilia, contains thin epithelial cells. O2 from inside the alveoli crosses the type 1 thin epithelial cells into the capillaries. Co2 moves out of the capillaries through the type 1 epithelial cells into the alveoli to be exhaled. How much air in general enters the lungs per minute (on an exam, you could be asked this person has 200ml per breath volume and they breathe 30 times per minute )
