Physiology 1021 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Extracellular Fluid, Membrane Transport, Fluid Compartments
Document Summary
Physiology the study of the normal functioning of a living organism and its component parts. The cells in a multicellular organism play a critical role in the homeostasis of the organism as a whole. Difference between the external and internal environments of the body: external environments: continuous with outside world; 1. respiratory system 2. digestive system 3. urinary system 4. reproductive system. Homeostasis- the ability of the body to maintain a relatively constant internal environment: self-regulatory process involving all organs, tissues, and the cells of the body. This info from the receptor cells is then compared to the set point value of 38 degrees celsius. The difference would initiate a series of responses (shivering) that would function to raise the body temperature back to the set point. Distribution of fluids: cells within our body are surrounded by interstitial fluid (serves to act as transition between the external environment, and the intracellular fluid inside cells)
