Document Summary
Entropy is the measure of the order of a system. Simple will have a maximum entropy when it is in equilibrium. The relationship between driving force and flux is linear only close the equilibrium which leads to processes that we are aware of. Cells are small macromolecules hydrophobic and hydrophilic end. In a hydrophilic environment such as cells we can create a membrane, by keeping hydrophilic ends towards to aqueous solutions and keep hydrophobic ends together. There are proteins that are intrinsic to the membrane. A membrane separates two (equilibrium) systems where at least one system parameter varies across the interface. While the membrane separates 2 systems, we want both systems to be at equilibrium (think of left side and right side to be reservoirs) Keep both systems at equilibrium and have a localized point where they are not. Temperature difference on both sides is the driving force.
