Document Summary

We could date the remains of things that had once been living. We know, sometimes, when things were made. First duke of buckingham was a painter, he was killed, he made a painting that was found recently and it was dated back to be made by someone younger than 35, as he was killed then. They dated the painting back using wood that was once (cid:1688)alive(cid:1689) There is an exchange between whats in them and the atmosphere. Because of the exchange between the living thing, and nitrogen in the atmosphere, while we are alive now we are generating radioactive carbon. When a living thing dies, it ceases to generate radioactive carbon any longer. The amount of carbon in the living thing begins to decay. This decrease in the carbon inside the thing is regular over time. We know that this method works, measure amount of carbon in early vs late picture frame, see the difference.
