41 views2 pages

Document Summary

Case one: trolley driver: a trolley is going down a track, ahead of him is five people stuck to the track. Thought it may be permissible, it is not obligatory. If you believe that the value of human life cannot accumulate this way, then there is no moral different between the two. Morality allows you to do it, however if it forces you to accumulate the value of the five people versus the one person, a worry is raised. As far as i know, switching may make things worse; by switching, there is more doing by staying put you would be killing people by chance. By killing the one person, you have consciously made the choice to sacrifice his life over the other one. What matters is the number, and your agency; its just as much something happening to you as it is to the others. Sometimes omissions are things to which you are probable.
