Sudden natural unexpected death: sudden, most consider sudden as death 1 hour after onset of symptoms, sometimes, no symptoms at all, natural, due to disease, unexpected, elderly with history of cad: unexpected, but not as unexpected considering history. Why is this of interest: coroners, police, medical personnel need to get right answers, epidemiologists/public health improve the system + prevention in future, physicians: improvements in treatment (don"t need to memorize statistical data) Age group 45-75: above 75 chronic diseases less unexpected. Into elderly age group, women"s rates catch up to that of men: but, death no longer unexpected, medical standpoint: associated with cad, angina pectoris. Indicates heart is not getting enough blood flow. Other cardiac causes of sudden death: valvular heart disease, valve prevents backflow of blood, aortic valve stenosis: calcium build up in cusps, so valve won"t open, heart has to work hard to push blood through lvh.
