Basically from last leture you need to know what an infectious disease is, what are koch"s postulates and virulence. For this lecture know the host defences and responses. Meningitis: bacterial disease caused by neisseria meningitides due to inflammation of the covering of our spinal cord, and the cerebral spinal fluid surrounding it. It adheres to the epithelial cells of the throat to colonize colonization and then proliferate: to evade host defenses neisseria alters its antigen expression and uses a capsule. Decrease blood flow ischemic injury, reduced brain or stroke: dissemination: infects the rbc to be carried to other sites, transmission: insect vector and blood transfusions are ways that it can find new hosts. I don"t think the detail of these examples are testable just a way of looking at different disease. Prevention is the best medicine: because if we never get the disease there are no side effects or other issues.
