Let"s talk about primary health care approach verses primary care. Primary health care: approach to healthcare delivery, primary (flu shot, pap test) School aged children: sex ed: older adults: colon screening, shingles vaccine. Five principles usually associated: accessibility, public participation, health promotion, appropriate technology. Cellulitis and abscesses: uti (children vs adult vs older adult, herpes zoster. Sti"s (chlamydia and gn, syphilis, hpv, herpes, hiv/aids). Stay home, lots of fluids, tylenol: we don"t usual give antibiotics for flu, depends on how they present. Presentation: cold symptoms, fever and cough, difficulty breathing (worse at night), loud barking cough. Infection: viral: nursing considerations, moist and cool air. Fever control: monitor breathing, when should patients seek treatment, treat with tylenol first, if that doesn"t work bring them in. If they can swallow or are having difficulty swallowing bring them to emerge. Sore throat (sudden onset), odynophagia, fever, tonsillar exudate (see picture), enlarged cervical lymph nodes.
