Can involve a blow to the head and loss of consciousness, but not frequently. Multiple concussions do not predispose you from further, just takes longer to heal. No structural damage to brain, hard to identify. Brain injury that can be caused by a sudden acceleration of the head and/or neck resulting from a blow to the head or contact to the body. Symptoms can appear immediately or in some cases, hours to days following the initial injury. Brain is jello in hard bowl , can elongate brain is shaken too much causing damage. 1/3 of concussions occur in adolescents (12-19) Must be symptom free before going back to sport. Rest 24-48 hours then ease back in. Cognitive: foggy, difficulty concentrating, confusion, slow response. Sleep: drowsiness, less sleep, sleep disorder (but it needs rest, could make it worse) Person may not give all symptoms, combo of symptoms makes it difficult.
