Nursing 3920A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Hepatitis C Virus, Viral Hepatitis, Alcoholic Liver Disease
Document Summary
Bile salts are an important digesive juice: bile is stored in the liver and dumped into the duodenum, if obstructed, there will be changes in someone"s ability to digest food. Detoxiicaion of drugs and alcohol: most drugs are detoxiied and metabolized by the liver (but not all, the max amount of acetaminophen someone should take in one day is 4g. If you surpass that amount, the liver can"t cope with it and it can cause liver failure: it helps clear alcohol to go on to other parts of your system. It is important to make sure that you noice if someone has a history of alcohol abuse when dispensing drugs (they will take subsitutes that don"t have acetaminophen in them) It isn"t likely that someone will classify themselves as being an alcoholic it is more likely that it will say etho hx on their chart (they have a history of ethanol alcohol abuse)
