What happens: inflammation of the gi tract, bowels thrown off- diarrhea. Subacute and chronic inflammation of the gi tract wall through all layers. Recurrent ulcerative and inflammatory disease of the mucosal and submucosal layers of the colon and rectum. Serious disease with systemic complications and high mortality rate. Liquid stools: how many: 15-20 stools a day. Endoscopy: scoping the gi tract, sigmoid oscopy or colonoscopy, camera and a light to take a look. Blood work: cbc rbc- if bleeding they may be decreased. Hematocrit: electrolytes nutrition- especially potassium and sodium.
