Hildegard peplau: nurse leader and pioneer in psychiatric nursing, published interpersonal relations in nursing (1952, the first theorist to identify nurse patient relationship as central to all nusing care. 4 components: nurse, client, professional expertise, client need. 3 phases: orientation, this is where the relationship begins. To facilate development toward well-being: resolution, patient continued movement from dependence to independence, patient has strengthened ability to manage care, completion of this phases results in mutual termination of nurse-patient relationship and planning sources for support. Anxiety: anxiety is an energy that emerges in response to a real or perceived treat. In order to be empathetic anger by getting angry [mutual anger] and then withdraw [complementary. Intellectualizing: drug use, humour, self-reflection, problem solving. Anxiety responses: a diffuse apprehension, vague in nature, associated with feelings of uncertainty, an emotion without a specific object. Increased blood pressure: elevated pulse, sweating, peripheral vasoconstriction, nausea and diarrhea, rapid breathing, dizziness, decreased sex drive and irritability.
