If the focus of the 20th century has been on outer space, the focus of the 21st century may well be on inner space. We are entering a new era of discovery not of the world around us, but of the world within. Foundational concepts: ways of knowing many different ways of acquiring knowledge. A new need to re-visit an old concept : our culture", over-busy, pressure to be the best", seek pleasure via materialism, moving away from pleasures that were culturally acceptable, individualistic, lack of peace" and true purpose". Spirituality: way to find hope, way to find meaning in life, way to find greater purpose. Spirituality from latin word spiritus meaning breath or wind . Spirituality relates to an inner knowing and source of strength reflected in one"s being, one"s knowing, and one"s doing (burkhardt & nagai-johnson, 1994): an energy that gives a person a reason to exist (potter & perry, 2001)
