Health science addition far end 026 monday after lab. Boundaries: provide security and order, constrains, contains, limits, delineates the edge of appropriate behaviours. Involve issues of power, influence and control: may be blurred or ambiguous. Examples: writing our name on things, putting up fences, graffiti, personal space. Ethics of therapeutic relationships: vulnerability, power, control. When helping hurts: complexity of treatment, no true altruism because you feel good when you do good things (cid:494)seductive(cid:495) pull of helping, nurse client relationship who(cid:495)s needs are being met. Intensity of treatment relationships potential for abuse of power. Not helpful enough: patient expressing isolation (verbal or behavioural, lack of mutually agreed upon goals, lack of progress toward goals. What facilitates healthy: unconscious thing, making excuses/rationalizations, helping out too much, What enables unhealthy dependency: we are the enablers, maintain boundaries. Too helpful: patient increased need for assistance.
