Health promotion is a health strategy that aims to incorporate skills & community development and to create supportive environments for health, endeavors to build healthy public policy and looks at re-orienting health services. Evolution of health promotion models: the biomedical approach. Models represent different ways of looking at health. Dominant perspective within the health sciences for many years. The behavioural model views health as the product of making healthy lifestyle choices. Top down approach health experts decide which behaviours are good or bad for health, then try to get people to change their lifestyles accordingly. The socioenvironmental model views health as the product of social, economic and environmental determinants that provide incentives and barriers to the health of individuals and communities.
