Three classifications of nurses: registered practical nurse, registered nurse, nurse practitioner. A nurse is accountable for his or her actions/decisions. We need to talk action to ensure clients safety by collaborating with clients, each other and members of the circle of care team. In ontario, we are not (cid:498)licensed(cid:499) we are registered. This legislation defines the three categories of nursing. The most likely cause for a nurse to be in legal trouble is he or she departs from accepted care. The registered health professions act, 1991 contains provisions regarding permitted actions & processes that are applicable to all regulated health professionals in ontario. The nursing act, 1991 contains a scope of practice statement and controlled act authorized to nursing, as well as provisions & regulations specific to the nursing profession. It includes definitions of the classes of nurse registration, entry-to-practice and title protection regulations, & regulations on initiating controlled acts.
