Quotations treated as foreign objects (distorted) o quotations are literal, but we hear them as if through a screen. Unprecedented range of borrowings o even back to gregorian chant! Multiple quotations often thrown together in an eclectic mix. Sense of distance from borrowed material often created. Makes a statement that aligns with postmodernism.
