Wrote in prison, selections from the prison notebooks (cid:12254) (cid:12254) Kind of mysterious, because in order to get the writing out of prison, he had to get it past the prison sensors. Lots of the writing was opaque/ unclear because of this censorship. Gramsci struggled to understand why the revolution predicted by marx (in capital), had not happened yet. In capital, marx argues that the contradictions that are built into capitalism, will eventually cause. The answer that he comes up with- is that the answer is ideology. Its ideology that prevents a workers revolution, and its ideology that allows capitalism to persist, and keeps the ruling class in control.
