Colonialism: the conquest and control of other people"s land, a phase of imperialism. Imperialism is the penetration of capitalism into non-capitalist parts of the world. The deconstruction of non-capitalist modes of production or social organization. Not just seizing other peoples territory but also replacing their modes of production with specifically capitalism: often by european power. 1970- after world war i: european colonial project. France, germany, great britain, belgium, portugal, italy: imperialism is enormously destructive to those people who inhabit those spaces before europeans arrive in them. Post colonialism is an attempt to think about those affects^ not those who are colonialized who"s land is taken but also for those who come to the land as well. Major theoretical influences on post colonialism: deconstruction. Binary opposition and its instability between colonizer and the colonized. Imperialism and everyday life (then: hasn"t ended- still going on, set of everyday commodities advertised as everyday commodities as being a part of imperialism and colonialism.
