Document Summary
Vincent mosco, the next internet: three technologies, cloud computing, big data. Information you access through your smart phone or computer: email, programs, apps. What does the cloud look like: the cloud is heavy, looks like a large fuckin factory. Data centres: huge info storage centres, tens of thousands of servers, remote, cool, stable locations. Remote; data companies want secure spaces: they will store data safely and will not get hacked or breached. Cool, freezing: computers generate lots of heat and require it to be under controlled, rent out storage and processing facilities, more data factory than data locker. Cloud platforms: why this is a big deal: early internet decentralized, connecting millions of computers and local servers, now recentralized. Huge amounts of data we summon; have to pass through big data centres of large commercial providers: through big commercial centers, cloud platforms, amazon, microsoft, google, ibm, outsources it departments, reduction in jobs.
