Mass media was developing at this time period. Kinetograph: moving picture camera, 1892: camera that takes moving images rather than a single frame like photography. Edison (cid:494)studio(cid:495: first film studio, dancers, acrobats, prize fighters, vaudeville performers. Parlours were set up where people would pay and watch the short films. Francis jenkins/thomas armat: basic principle est. Augustue/louis lumiere: cinematograph in paris, 1895, first commercial showing of a projected film, (cid:498)workers leaving lumiere factory(cid:499, (cid:498)train arrival at la ciotat(cid:499) Someone would have played music live alongside the projection of the film. People actually screamed when they viewed a train pulling into a station. Three initial venues before we get to a dedicated facility that is only for. Vaudeville showing movies: movies-novelty acts (cid:494)chasers(cid:495, type of theater, they would run some films in between performances, the movie was not the centerpiece, the vaudeville show still was. Penny arcades: owners buy/rent projectors, regular film screenings.
