Genre is how we categorize and organize media: recognizable groups of media forms that we use to help make chocies and recognize what we like. What does genre do: helps us make choices, sets expectations, sets rules and limits, helps us recognize what we like, signifies and codes in recognizable ways. Genre in context: production and consumption: wholly new genres do come along in all areas of media, however they occasionally also fail to attract new audiences bc they are unpopular or hey lose their novelty value.
