Organizational structure- dictates how jobs and tasks are divided and coordinated between individuals and groups within the company. Organizational chart- diagram represents every job in an organization and the formal reporting relationships between those jobs. Work specialization- degree to which tasks in an organization are divided into separate jobs: division of labour. Chain of command- specifies who reports to who; signifies formal authority relationships: helps attain order, control and predictable performance. Span of control- how many employees a manager is responsible for: determines how tall or flat organizational chart is, moderate span of control best for organization productivity. Span narrow or wide, each with their own pros and cons. Centralization- dictates where decisions are formally made in organizations. Centralized and decentralized: decentralization is more necessary as a company grows. Formalization- degree to which rules and procedures are used to standardize behaviours and decisions in an organization (achieve consistency)
