Central tolerance in thymus and peripheral tolerance mechanisms that remove cells, anergize them or make treg cells. If you break any of these mechanisms, the result is rampid autoimmunity. Even when these appear to be functioning there can still be autoimmune diseases. Many have different mechanism and look different based on target. Systemic affects on all sorts of tissues, broad. Organ specific target specific to that organ. It is possible to have more than what disease at the same time often risk factors are the same.
