Not a one time thing, new outbreak comes in waves. Reservoir in rats, returns, infects and kills. A medieval pandemic caused by yersinia pestis. Different strain than the one causing the plague of justinian. Originated in asia and reached europe in the late 1340. Reduced the global population from about 450 million to 350-375 million. Killed about 25 million europeans (1/3 of the total population)
