Since she was not vaccinate, she was infected with the measles virus sometimes during those 2 months. Infected student returned to indiana, usa and went to a gather of 500 other students. Patients were not vaccinated due to fear of adverse events from vaccine. Largest us measles virus outbreak since 1996. Measles is one of the most infectious virus (highly transmissible) There was a very high prevalence of measles before the virus. However, it is not as prevalent in canada these days because of vaccination (very safe vaccine!) Outbreaks occur because people are not getting vaccinated. Still a major problem in south america and africa. Example 2: influenza outbreak in alberta (christmas 2013) Vaccine to influenza protects not only you but the young and the elderly. University students are highly susceptible to influenza.
