Landlord and tenant board: provides info on the residential tenancies act, resolves disputes between landlords and tenants. Law society referral service: gives referrals to a lawyer practicing in the relevant area, 30 minutes free consultation. Landlord and tenant board hears disputes and makes orders (administrative board: $ amount must be under 25,000(s. 207, very rare for it to be over 25,000, dispute must be heard in a court if dispute is over 25,000. If the rta doesn"t apply, there are still protections under the common law (judge- made law) and/or other statutes. Landlords and tenants should speak to each other to resolve dispute: tenants- application with supporting docs. Filed with board- board gives notice hearing- tenant serves application and notice of hearing on landlord- possible mediation- hearing. Landlords- notice of termination served on tenant (time to correct issue)- if no correction- application with supporting docs.
