Executive function: constellation of high level cognitive processes including inhibition, working memory, and cognitive exibility. Both saccades are controlled by executive processes doing saccade tests measures executive function. Pro-saccade: re exive eye movements to a presented target. Anti-saccade: inhibiting re exive eye movement to presented target, and instead look the other way to a certain target typically, anti-saccades take longer because of the executive component (inhibiting a response) Cerebral blood flow: blood ow through the brain sensitive to physiological changes to maintain homeostasis. The brain takes up 20% of the oxygen in the body. The circle of willis at the base of the skull ensures that blood and oxygen reaches the brain one way or another. Hypercapnia: 5% co2 gas that causes chemo-re ex, which results in vasodilation and increased blood ow. The fronto-parietal network often sees the most increases in blood ow most blood. Ow travels to this area with exercise= increased executive function.
