Most experiments tend to be high on internal validity and low on external. Preformed in a lab where the environment is highly controlled. Study: phsyical activty, cognitive decline, risk of dementia. Those who have declines in cognitive function are most likely to exercise. Takes a long time to collect data / see results. What if the people who dropout are all those more likely to develop dementia will sway the results one way. Attribute outcomes to the intervention (e. g. exercise) Examples: used to examine the effects of a drug or procedure on a specific outcome: does aerobic exercise improve memory performance.
