Mechanism of concussion: rotational forces- twisted- hitting a surface. Tangles found in superficial and cortical layers of frontal and temporal lobe. Duarson"s microscopic study at 100 fold increase. Losing all grey and white matter that would allow them to maintain normal behaviour. Trying to focus on how to diagnosis concussions with the thought that that knowledge would help prevent onset of cte. High suspect of concussions linked with cte development, but no conclusive evidence yet. Erp measures of cognitive processing: event-related potentials (erps) are averaged electrical brain responses to time-locked stimuli, n2pc = erp component related to the focusing of visuospatial attention, p300 = measure of stimulus classification processing speed. Eeg: benefit of this technique: high degree of temporal resolution (measure every millisecond) fmri doesn"t give us millisecond accuracy. Eeg- not neuro imaging its an electro physiology technique. How the brain reacts to a particular stimulus.
