The way we present ourselves to other people is an underlying feature of all interpersonal beh. The term self-presentation (s-p) is used to des(cid:272)ri(cid:271)e people"s efforts to regulate or maintain power over how others may perceive them. Two underlying components of s-p that we use in trying to control the impressions that other people form of us are impression motivation and impression construction. Impression motivation refers to the degree to which a person is motivated to present themselves in a certain way. Impression construction represents the methods that people employ to create the impressions that they strive to convey. Both impression motivation and impression construction are dependent upon specific situational and personal factors.
