Kinesiology 3347A/B Lecture 14: Lecture 14
Document Summary
Role in action in perception: developmentalists suspect the movement is important to perceptual development, movement is necessary for the coupling, or linking, of perception and movement, exact role unknown. Pre learning assessment: what does perception mean, in relation to movement. Perceptual motor theories of the 1960s: identi ed perception as the precursor of movement and cognition, speculated that learning disabilities could be remediated through perceptual motor programs, early evaluations were awed. Attention bias: little evidence exists that perceptual motor programs improved classroom skills. Jean piaget 1952: reality is constructed by relating action to sensory information. Perceptual motor activities are important: they give children experience in performing skills based on perceptual information, they reinforce concepts such as shapes and direction. Important for improved learning and memory: study by grif n and colleagues 2011. Groups a and b performed photo/ name recall test twice. In between tests, group a rested and group b performed 30 minutes of stenos cycling.
