Age: a process or group of processes occurring in living organisms that with passage of time lead to the loss of adaptability, functional impairment and eventual death. Chronological age can be split into 2 categories: primary aging, secondary aging. Primary aging: the universal and irreversible physical changes that occur to all living creatures as they get older. Secondary aging: the speci c physical illness or conditions that become more common with aging but are caused by health habits, genes, and other in uences that vary from person to person. Many physiological changes occur with age (see photo) With age, it is often seen that there is an increase in the number of chronic conditions. It is found that women generally have more chronic conditions as they age. By 2021= 6. 7 million canadians will be over 65. By 2031= 1 in 4 canadians will be over 65. By 2056= 1 in 10 canadians will be over the age of 80.
