Given it is relatively new, the field has leaned on parent disciplines for the background. 1) psychology: a field of study concerned with various mental processes people experience and use in all aspects of their lives. 2) exercise science: the study of all aspects of sport, recreation, exercise/fitness, and rehabilitative behaviour. The application of the psychological principles (same principles that people in psych use) to the promotion and maintenance of leisure physical activity.
